Looking for a Family Photographer can be tough. Trying to decide on who to hire to take photos of your family can be so stressful. Trusting someone to take pictures that will hang on the walls of your home and you will look back on for years to come can be difficult. Here are my top three tips on choosing a Family Photographer:
Look through their portfolio. I know what you’re thinking- this seems really obvious. The first thing many people do is look through a photographer’s social media and website to look at pictures they have taken. But when hiring a family photographer you need to not just look at the quality of the photo but who they have experience photographing. If you are bringing little children with you, you might want to see if the photographer has experience with getting children to look at the camera and working with kids running around. Do you want more candid photos or staged? A photographers portfolio can usually give you a good indicator for what they focus on.
Read through reviews. A Google or Facebook review can reveal a lot about how a photographer functions and treats their client. Have clients consistently received their photos on time and had good communication? Most reviews will give you insight to the inside workings of a photographer. (Side note: this is why your photographer LOVES when you leave reviews for them on Google and Facebook!)
Talk to them! Just because you like a photographer’s style doesn’t mean you are a good fit for each other. The best way to find this out? Talk to them! Inquire with your photographer and explain what you are looking for and see if they can fit your needs. Over communication is better than no communication!
Choosing a photographer can be hard- but it doesn’t have to be! Use these tips the next time you are trying to choose and see how much easier it is!
